Essence of Learning, Inc. is a Non-Profit organization devoted to empowering communities through educational advancement, character building for children and families; and to provide leadership and financial support that will encourage children and families to expand their opportunities and pursue high academic excellence

our goal

reach youth, elderly and individuals in the community in search of improving their current situation.

About our founder and ceo

Essence has always had a thirst for knowledge. She has dedicated over 16 years of service helping others reach their full potential through education and philanthropist efforts. Her mission is to leave a legacy that will inspire others to reach excellence and develop a sense of self.

valerie louise smith memorial scholarship fund

Valerie L. Smith was born in Miami, FL. She obtained her B.S. in Social Work from Florida A&M University, her masters from Ashford University, and her Ph.D. from NCU. Through out her life she served others as Social Worker, Business Woman, Bails Bondsmen, and Teacher.

Valerie L. Smith’s aim was to fight for the underdog. For over 50 years Valerie Smith advocated for social justice, education, a better quality of life for all. She stood on the conviction that second chances should be afforded to everyone. Her call to action was give people access to resources to relieve them from social economic injustices and help others reach their full potential for independence.

On February 2024, Valerie L. Smith passed. from stage four cervical cancer but her legacy lives on. An access to better opportunities are available for first generation students, trade school students, GED students, or continuing education applicants. For more information, please click here

A yearly marathon used to raise funds for those pursuing academic excellence, (GED, College/Trade School Scholarships. Funds go to the Valerie Louise Smith Scholarship Fund
